Exchanges and Excellent Adventures

OKAY, I'm going to hit you with an update of last week and this week. But I'm pressed for time so I'm going to try my best to cram it all in here but still have it make sense.

ALRIGHTY, HERE'S LAST WEEK/THIS WEEK:

- THE GRAND 전도 EXCHANGE: Usually when you plan an exchange you make sure to include all forms of the work, like your studies, some appointments, maybe even some member visits. Wellllll, this wasn't the case for us here in Oncheon. Elder Kim and I had been swamped by office work and struggled to find anyone one that could meet with us the week prior SOOO we failed to grab any appointments for the day that we had exchanges with our Busan Zone Leaders. Oops. BUT IT'S OKAY. We had about 6 hours ahead of us full of proselyting time and we were going to make the best of it. So my temporary companion Elder 박인수 Park Insu and devised a diabolical 전도 schedule. We started with a block of regular street proselyting, followed by a block of 학습 전도 "study proselyting" (you set up a table in public with a bunch of Books of Mormon and such, put a whiteboard out front asking people to come take a free Book of Mormon, and just greet people as they walk by while do your companionship and language studies), then a short "break proselyting" (get some water and talk to people on the way; these missionaries need to stay hydrated too), followed by some "whiteboard proselyting" (write a question on the board and ask people to write down their answers; ex. "What makes you happy?" "What is your dream?" and then relate it to the gospel), and then we did "Book of Mormon proselyting" (we got the whole Oncheon missionary gang together with a sticker board and gave away a bunch of Book of Mormons), and then we did "dinner proselyting" (we didn't actually proselyte during this part, it was literally us just going home and eating dinner, I just wanted to add the "dinner proselyting" to make this more dramatic. BUT I am in the middle of trying to figure out a way that we could somehow do that while we ate dinner now that I think about it...), AND THEN we finally ended the night on some more classic street proselyting. It was actually a ton of fun too! And from the contacts we got that day we got one new person that we're currently meeting with and three other potential buddies that we're currently contacting. #EXCHANGEMIRACLES #I'msosorrythatImadeElderPark전도for6hours #we'llgetmoreappointmentsnexttime

- We did more sticker boarding with the sisters, as well as some more street proselyting. We're trying to find some people to meet with before we start running out of time the last two weeks of the transfer.

- We had District Meeting and we're still focusing on the Christlike Attributes. It makes study and teaching a whole lot easier when you just focus on trying to be like Jesus.

- We fixed our car. Somebody scratched the mission van while it was parked in the parking lot. Bummer.

- I went on exchange with Elder Reiley while our companions were at a mission choir performance.

- During the GRAND 전도 EXCHANGE we met a boy named 김제윤 but we call him Henderson. Elder Reiley and I met with him for the first time that weekend and taught him the first lesson in a McDonald's. This kid is SO COOL. He lived in the Philippines for like three years so he's fluent in English, super smart, and acts so American. He has really good questions about our church and about us. We gave him a Book of Mormon as well and he keeps it in his bag all day to read when he finds the time. And another fun fact: before people meet us, a lot of people search our church on the internet here in Korea, but the sad thing is that Korea labels our church as something similar to a "cult" so people see that and stop contacting. But our boy Henderson here, didn't just search, he researched us an then asked us questions over the phone and in person. He attends another church right now but he likes what we've taught him so far and he wants to try coming to our church sometime. HE'S PREPARED LADIES AND GENTLEMAN

- We also met with our main person that we're teaching 박진제. We had him on track for a baptismal date in October, and then he thought we'd have to push it back because of some other stuff going on in his church recently, and then his pastor found out that he was meeting with us and had a long talk with him about how he should cut ties with us and forget about our church... But he remembers what he liked about meeting with us and the things that we've shared with him, so he still kept contact with us and he's still willing to meet us and talk with us. So we'll see how that goes.

- YO WE GOT A MEMBER REFERRAL! This is my second member referral on my mission (the first one in Suseong was a member's coworker who turned out to be a guy who was reeeeeally angry at God...) and so I was super excited when we received it. His name is 김진우 Kim Jinoo and he is our bishop's younger brother. They work together, and he knows about our church, and he's been to a number of sacrament meeting and church activities. He also has been somebody that the past three or four assistants have been trying to meet with for a long time but never worked out and I just walked here into Oncheon, asked the bishop about his younger brother and he just straight up gave me his contact information and background. Wow, perfect timing (sorry past assistants..) But we met with him, it went great, and we plan on teaching him again next week.

- Elder Reiley and I went on a pretty much full-day exchange with one another. We got our Korean driver's licenses and because our companions were scheduled to get back late, we started the missionary work part of our day after P-day ended. P_DAY EXCHANGE MIRACLE: We felt the need to go eat chicken for dinner, found the tastiest place in the area after thoughtful consideration and an hour or so of wandering the neighborhoods proselyting on the way, and the chicken place's owner was a past investigator, works there with his family, has good memories of the missionaries, and we got his son's number (but he's pretty darn busy because of upcoming tests). We now have a really good excuse to go eat chicken.

- THE GRAND 전도 EXCHANGE ROUND 2: We did it again. Oops. But it was still fun! Pretty much the exact same schedule but this time I did it with my "older brother" (Elder Fox's first trainee) Elder 송우성 Song Wooseong. Cool people were met on the streets and chicken was eaten (but the son wasn't there this time, darn it).

- We met an old contact that called me last week and wanted to meet in person. So we did and his name is MCMckay and he's a rapper. He doesn't actually have much interest but it was a fun memory and we reminded him a bit of God's love and he can find answers to prayers. And he also made a rap about us. I really regret not recording it.

- I GOT TO GO BACK TO HOGYE ON EXCHANGE! Last winter I was I was serving in Ulsan in an area called Hogye and lucky me got to go back there this last week for exchanges with the Ulsan Zone Leaders. Only bummer was that it was pouring the entire time so we couldn't proselyte all that effectively. So instead we visited some members. They had a Hogye Branch goal to read the Book of Mormon for ten minutes a day, so my temporary companion and old roommate Elder 이해성 Lee Haesong (this is his 8th transfer in the area) shared a message about that and I shared a testimony on the comfort of the Book of Mormon. It was good to see some old familiar faces and have some fun chats with members I used to see all the time. We also had a spontaneous appointment with a person that used to be taught a long time ago followed by some dinner with some youth near the church. Originally we were going to meet a friend that I had found and taught while I lived there but plans fell through but while we were eating we got to see another old friend of mine, Jerry, who just happened to have plans to eat at the same place at the same time that night. We had an awesome reunion and now we're back in touch again~

- We helped some missionaries move houses. The catch was that they were two Korean sister missionaries so Elder Kim and I did the vast majority of the moving and lifting. But it was a fun time and we rewarded ourselves with some McDonald's afterwards.

- We had interviews with President followed by dinner at his house. We played some traditional Korean games to prepare for our zone conferences next week too. President Jeong and Sister Kim are my Korean parents now.

- We taught a children's English class with the sisters. Not a great turn out but the kids that came were darn cute and they learned some English so mission accomplished~

- We had Stake Conference in Busan! You'd think I'd be able to sit through two hours of talks in Korean and understand most of it by this point but nope, I got maybe half of it. But hey that half was pretty darn good.

- We met a guy named 채성호 Jack and taught him about the Plan of Salvation. He wants to go and eat pork cutlets with us next time we meet. That's so random but I'm not the type of guy to refuse a pork cutlet so I'm down.

THAT"S ALL I GOT. Wow that was longer than I hoped it to be. Sorry about that. Next week is Zone Conference week! A lot of travel. Stay tuned for more next week~ Thankyouthankyouthankyou

ALSO! Daniel got baptized yesterday! He was someone that Elder Staker and I found and taught and Elder Seely and Elder Stein were able to continue meeting him after we whitewashed and help him progress baptism! He's super cool and has a super strong testimony. Congrats Daniel~ ^^
